Make SURE your phone or device isn't auto-switching back to the Home WIFI. Some devices think they know better than the user and will jump away from any WiFi which doesn't have internet access.

There is already existing mavlink message creation capabilities on board the bird. GPS info is already packaged and sent down the link, so it's definitely possible. Look at the pymavlink*.py files

Any Gopro with an HDMI port can be made to work. Any CAMERA with a mount you can adapt to the 'fixed mount' and is under ~300 grams [IIRC] will work (for certain values of 'WORK') Control from the apps is a different story.
